History
In July 2006, the construction of the school started. The first building was to be used as a pre-school. In 2007, Chirag School first opened its door to 15 children, aged from 3 ½ to 5 years old. Our staff was composed of 1 coordinator and 3 teachers. During the subsequent years, the residents of the region became increasingly aware of our new initiative and the demand for our services grew quickly. Therefore, with the help of our donors, we expanded our infrastructure, welcomed new children and hired new staff members.
Today, the School includes 3 main buildings; the administration block, the pre-school for group 1 and 2, and the primary school for grade 1 to 5. We now provide education to a total of 115 children. This project would not be possible without the work of our passionate and dedicated team, formed by 9 teachers, 3 support staff member, 1 school leader/Principal and 2 full time volunteers. To provide an education of quality, we ensure that our student-teacher ratio never exceeds 18 students per teacher.
Our facilities include offices, classroom, a library, a computer room, toilets and playgrounds. Though the construction was completed in 2009, we are planning at the community demand to expand our infrastructure to include a middle and high school. We will need to raise more funds in order to start this new phase of development.
