Health committee meeting at Kamoli Village

Currently, Chirag provides curative services through the Sitla clinic and the cottage Hospital at Sargakhet which is being equipped. Chirag’s preventive and promotive health programme seeks to mobilise the Health Committees of 38 Gram Panchayats in the region. The committees are supported in the creation of health plans for their panchayats and in realising these plans by demanding services from the government wherever necessary. Chirag also supports the ASHAs (Accredited Social Health Activists) appointed by the National Rural Health Mission in fulfilling their responsibilities.

In the initial years, Chirag focussed on increasing access to drinking water and sanitation. Piped water schemes, maintenance and upgradation of springs, community water tanks and rain-water harvesting tanks in addition to latrines were constructed. In recognition of the growing crisis of drinking water, Chirag currently focuses on increasing the recharge of springs and water sources and on improving the quality of drinking water.
