Low quality education, lack of knowledge on local environment and resources and lack of involvement of teachers and parents in their children’s education has been the major challenge in this region. As a result, many children are disinterested in studies. Chirag got involved with education as a way to raise awareness on environmental issues among children. It soon became apparant that resource strapped government schools in the region need support to improve the quality of education to its students. With our direct involvement in running pre and primary schools and village libraries, Chirag has been instrumental in bringing about change in the quality of government education system at the district and also state level.

Over the years, Chirag’s role in education has increased many folds. To enhance its key objective of improving and sustaining the quality of education, we have introduced capacity building programs for youth, designing school curriculum to include environment, sanitation, ecology etc, introduce school library program for children, scholarship program for the girl child and put up an example of exemplary education by setting up the Chirag School at Sitla.
