Education

In rural Kumaun, most of the primary schools are funded and run by the government, but due to the remoteness of the region, lack of quality inputs and other institutional constraints the quality of education remains a major challenge. We decided to get involved in education as a way to raise awareness on the importance of education and to improve the quality of education in the schools.

To achieve this key objective, we introduced the BalShikshak (auxiliary teachers) program, introduced a library program for children and a scholarship program for the girls. We also set up our own primary school at Simayal, in the hope of serving as a model of exemplary education. With our direct involvement in running pre and primary schools, Chirag has been instrumental in bringing about change in the government education system at the district and state level.
