Chirag is a rural development organisation based in the Kumaun region of Uttarakhand in India. Since 1987, we have worked closely with communities on issues relating to forestry, soil and water conservation, agriculture, animal husbandry, drinking water, health care, education and skill and knowledge development of young people. We work in nearly 250 villages in Nainital, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh and Almora districts.

News

  • A promotional film on Swades ki Khoj made by Moving Images is now available on our site under what we do/ programmes for young people/swades ki khoj.
  • The Rajeshwar and Susheela Dayal Charitable Trust have approved our request to provide 30 girls with scholarships to complete their schooling.
  • Between the 21st of December and 10th of January, 112 girls who currently receive scholarships attented campsĀ  in three batches at our training centre.
  • Twelve of the youth from the third cohort of Swades ki Khoj participated in a workshop at the Training centre wherein they shared their experiences from the past six months.
  • The Chirag School has a new mini-bus, courtesy Ms Angelina Kohli and her friends.
  • 16 young people – including 11 girls – have commenced work at Orakhan in the first Information Technology based enterprise set up in partnership with Business to Rural Technologies (B2R).
  • The Alstom Foundation selected Chirag for its 2009 awards. Chirag will be recharging 30 springs in the region with support from the Foundation.
